Shafroth Plan Aims to Reform National Currency System
Senator Shafroth backs retirement of most estaE currency and a general treasury note form backed by 50 percent gold. The bill would replace all national bank notes with treasury notes and cancel government bonds backing the currency. It promises $14 800 000 annual interest savings and could rise to $22 246 000 if bonds are refinanced, transferring currency control from banks to the government and allowing redemption of two percent bonds without loss.
