Anderson man wins Republican nomination after a tough campaign. The convention is described as the greatest the state has ever held. A soldier of two wars is chosen to lead the state ticket.
The Indiana GOP nominating convention praised McKinley and endorsed war measures, gold standard, elastic currency, and a tough stance on trusts. Durbin won on the seventh ballot with Gilbert as Lt. Governor nominee. several other state officials were renominated. A birth announced for Emery Beahm's son.
A large Indiana convention at Tomlinson Hall Indianapolis on Wednesday and Thursday drew wide interest with multiple candidates contending for the nomination. Griffith led early on the first ballot while Durbin was seen as the front runner at the start. Durbin’s gains were aided by federal influence. The I O O F Home committee accepted contracts from QO L Pulee Co for a 200 room building in Greensburg. Lodges statewide furnished the building, a April 1 opening for occupants is planned with dedicatory services May 16 to feature a grand address.
Marian Rooke, manager for T. M. Thompson, a large importer of millinery at 1658 Milwaukee Avenue Chicago, describes catching a dreadful cold during severe weather that kept her awake at night and made her unfit to attend work.
The proprietors have given away over ten million trial bottles of Dr King's New Discovery for consumption coughs and colds proving its efficacy. It claims to cure asthma bronchitis la grippe and chest and lung diseases with every bottle guaranteed and a free trial offered by E T Scott Druggist.
Superior court convened by Judge Tuthill for the April term. County prosecutor W H Breece motions to nolle several long dormant cases including state v Milford Higgins petit larceny state v Henry Verge shooting with intent to kill and state v Sherman Hiatt trespass. Higgins case delayed by lack of address. Verge accused of shooting at William Berger. Hiatt charged with trespass on English Lake Land Co property. two similar cases dismissed for lack of conviction. Residents of southern county area seek to hunt and fish on private land.
In Creston Iowa a farmer claims his hens lay twice as many eggs using a compound named American Poultry Mixture from American Mfg. Co., Terre Haute Ind. The ad promises 100 percent production gains or money back, plus disease prevention and direct action on the crow and gizzard.
An advertisement extols a pure grain based drink as nourishing and suitable for children and adults. It invites readers to buy from grocers, follow directions, and enjoy a delicious healthful table beverage. It also includes a weather bulletin predicting storm waves and temperature changes through early May and April’s warm spell.
The Maccabee Tent divided into sections to balance applicants with the side hosting the banquet. Under Sir Knights Metcalf Kelly and Alsh last evening the contract concluded. Sixty Sir Knights and their families attended a mock initiation "The Queen of Sahara" followed by a lunch and social hour.
