Wheat outlook favorable despite reduced acreage this year
The countryside reports excellent wheat prospects this spring especially in valleys with uplands promising. However risks to mature crop remain and total acreage is about three fourths of past years. Oats sowing is similar to usual, corn acreage may rise, and farmers race to prepare ground for May planting.
Is Soil Inoculation Necessary for Legumes
Farmers often seek inoculation as a cure all for clover and other legumes. Inoculation helps only where the soil lacks the specific bacteria. otherwise poor soil mineral content, improper tillage, or bad rotations cause failure. The remedy lies in manures, fertilizers, better rotations, and tillage, not in inoculation. A. T. Wiancko, Associate Agriculturist, Purdue University Agricultural Experiment Station.
