Westport Charter Revision Commission to hear proposed changes

The Westport Charter Revision Commission will hold a public hearing at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Town Courtroom to gather citizen reaction to sweeping charter changes. Chairman Thomas D. Lyne urged attendance as the panel weighs alternatives including representative town meeting rules, recall provisions, petitions for ballot questions, and a possible shift to a chief administrative officer.

Health District director resigns in wake of health concerns

Dr. William Spring resigned as director of the Aspetuck Valley Health District effective yesterday for health related personal reasons. The move follows two weeks after AVHD board chairman Dr. Clifford Mills quit. The First Selectman's office has not named a replacement for Mills and the board has not filled Spring's vacancy. Spring offered to stay until a successor was named but the board did not ask him to. Spring was appointed in February 1971 succeeding Dr. Anthony Donovan, district founder in 1966.

Staples Students Prepare to Launch Local FM Station WWPT 90.3

Staples High School students will run WWPT 90.3 FM with a balance of music and local news under station manager Chip Gertzog. The station aims to begin broadcasting near month end from the Staples student lounge, offering intensive local news over music. Plans include high school sports, town meetings, a talk show The Forum, and programs for adults and students.
