Court action in wings Kowalsky pit on stage again
The 20 acre Kowalsky gravel pit faces renewed action over proposed disposal of non contaminated bulky waste. A Planning and Zoning meeting is set for 8 p m tomorrow to review a study by Albertson Sharp and Backus. A May 18 hearing before Judge Irving Levine will decide if the pit is to be refilled to its original contours. Abutting owners Shilepsky and Villalon succeeded in halting mining at the site.

Westport police arrest 27 in anti-war sit-in at Post Road bridge
Police collided with a late night anti-war protest as 27 residents aged 16 to 62 were taken into custody for a sit-in on the Post Road bridge over the Saugatuck River. Michael Gilbertie, 32, was charged with disorderly conduct after tearing signs. A baby was present with one couple. The rally began in rain and wind after Nixon’s TV speech and included signs like Peace Now Join Us For A Few Minutes.
