A four member Westport task force questions the town and region wide plan to build a separation facility in Bridgeport under the state disposal program. They had previously urged action on a $3.5 million local incinerator and seek evidence supporting the regional approach before backing it.
Weston residents gathered at Town Hall to demand urgent solutions for Ravenwood wells. Eight or nine wells have been tested with 23 homes affected and further testing planned. A state report labels water from three wells as objectionable and high in minerals with a coliform count previously noted.
Connecticut lawmakers keep an open mind on the state animal issue as Hamden students urge an official animal. A Capitol voting machine lets visitors choose among squirrel rabbit raccoon deer and chipmunk while Grant Apthorp criticizes raccoon and calls the deer extreme.

James Ross announces he will resign from his post in Westport effective Friday leaving the town without a permanent planning official. The Planning and Zoning Commission has hired part time consultant Melvin Barr of Norwalk to fill the gap two days a week and advise at meetings. Barr works with Raymond Parish and Pine and with P&I chair Julie Belaga. The previous Town Planner David Dodes resigned after a controversy, and Mario Zavarella was appointed town planner in Wind in March.
