Westport faces possible school budget cuts amid deficit fears

Westport transit district gets 115000 to buy time for new system

The Westport RTM approved 115000 to support the Westport Transit District through June 30 1981 and to pay off 35000 in past Maxytaxy debts while it designs a new system. Maxytaxy full time revival was withdrawn as insufficient funds risked system survival. Proposed options include a mix of Minnybus commuter fixed routes and door to door service with shuttle links to Staples and downtown. The district plans an 800000 budget for 1981 1982 and seeks 140000 from town. funding from state gas tax auto tax and employer tax was discussed. Kathleen Lehn and Transit Committee urged denial of continued Maxytaxy.
