Commuters Fight ICC Okay of Fare Hikes
Commuter spokesmen in Fairfield and Westchester rushed to file a joint telegram by 4 p.m. to appeal yesterday's ICC Board of Suspension ruling allowing a 20 percent hike in New Haven line fares. If timely, three ICC commissioners will hear the appeal and decide before Friday when monthly tickets rise from 50 to 60 dollars in Westport. Fairfield County Commuters Action Committee President Carl Frey blasted the Price Commission for approving the hikes after the railroad sought relief to cover an estimated eight million dollar deficit next year.
