General Pershing reported to the war department that two regiments of American railroad engineers are attached to the British forces on the front attacked by the Germans. Three companies are operating in areas cited by the German statement and no reports have been received about them.
The United States food administration calls for a 60 percent cut in wheat consumption to supply allies, aiming for 21 million bushels a month. The plan seeks sweeping reductions in per capita use nationwide and asks individuals to cut daily intake.

American forces in Lorraine hold trenches northeast of Badonville as German attack opens the western fighting season.
