Town Council passes street renaming ordinances in wake of coal shortage

At a regular meeting the Town Council introduced and passed two ordinances to rename over thirty streets. Several names will honor World War heroes. Officials discussed a coal shortage and authorized a group to investigate and secure supplies. Other motions covered building permits and financial reports.

Reception for Rev and Mrs Holden at First Baptist Church

The First Baptist church hosts a reception tonight for Rev Edward J Holden and his wife to mark four years since his installation as pastor. The church plans a new building in the same location and moved current facilities. annual meeting earlier included trustee and deacon appointments and a vote to raise the pastor salary by 700 per year.

Tsador Levine of Elizabeth gets a suspended sentence for selling goods from a car without a license after presenting a peddlers pack. John H. Begar of Newark fined $10 for speeding. Local garage man robbed by highwaymen on Springfield road

William Ehmling of Lenox avenue was attacked by three highwaymen on the Springfield road while returning from Elizabeth. They took his watch and $144 but his auto repair skill helped him fix his car enough to reach town and report the incident to police after two suspects were detained in Summit.

Killed at Central Railroad Crossing

Ernest Hopper 26 an ice dealer's employee died after being struck by a Philadelphia flyer train at the Central avenue grade crossing at 6 41 pm as gateman Michael Whalen found his cap and later the remains. County physician Westcott authorized removal. Hopper a World War veteran is survived by a widow.
