Local garage man robbed by highwaymen on Springfield road
William Ehmling of Lenox avenue was attacked by three highwaymen on the Springfield road while returning from Elizabeth. They took his watch and $144 but his auto repair skill helped him fix his car enough to reach town and report the incident to police after two suspects were detained in Summit.

Ernest Hopper 26 an ice dealer's employee died after being struck by a Philadelphia flyer train at the Central avenue grade crossing at 6 41 pm as gateman Michael Whalen found his cap and later the remains.
