Atfield Honored Dead Heroes in Memorial Procession
A memorial procession in Westfield Sunday honored veterans of 1861. The march began at Washington grounds at 8:40 AM led by Deter with the Westfield Band, then moved to Broad and Elm with the Boys Brigade providing escort. Two busloads of school children joined the crowd.

Fatal Train Accident Claims Henry Walker at Canford
Henry Walker 42 of Summit Avenue Summit town died at Elizabeth General Hospital after being struck while attempting to board a moving train at Cranford Canford station around noon Saturday. His left leg was severed and the right leg crushed. Cranford physicians treated him and he was transported by auto ambulance. The incident followed a mistaken belief a fast train had slowed for boarding.

Ring Circus Impresses Afternoon Crowd Under Canvas Tent
A five show program drew big money today as performances under a three hundred seat canvas tent entertained the afternoon and evening crowds. Fred Sturgis acted as ring master in the afternoon with his brother William taking the helm in the evening. A. Arnold sold tickets at the door and proved an adept barker. Notable acts included a troupe of hobo tumblers led by Heinecke Conover Hale and Mason, with clowns Edwin Butland Robert Cairns Allen Cairns Frank Duke Reginald Bloomer Frederick Kinch William Hilott William Cruttenden and Peter Sweeney. The hobo band played marching tunes backward in a highlight, while Wellwood Maxwell Russell Gomes William Orr Harry Egbert Charles Cummings Walter Storrs Clark Jr. Miss Halsted presented a string of monkeys and antics that delighted children, with Everett Smith Harry Mason Edgerton Newcomb Gilman Bordman Wallace Rucket and Raymond Tucker forming the monkey brigade.
