Public Market Plan Moves Ahead In Antral Lot Donation

A city report details a donated Broad Street lot adjoining the rifle range for a public market. Mayor Evans and a county committee approve converting a Park Lake building into stalls priced 60 cents to 4 dollars for the season. Market days set for Tuesday Thursday Saturday with hours 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sundays close at noon.

I Cross Secures Fine Headquarters

The Prospect Street School building is repurposed as Red Cross headquarters in a committee led by Mrs. R. E. Perry. After securing Education Board permission, workers began minor renovations and planned to house executive offices storage and aid classes within the facility. The project aims to centralize Red Cross operations and class offerings for the local community.

A large crowd of men youths and some women attended a war meeting at the First M. and church in Westfield. Captain Thomas spoke on army supply from government works and private plants detailing explosives gun cotton and smokeless powder with a safe demonstration. A trumpet trio and patriotic music closed the program with the Star Spangled Banner.

Music contest prizes recall in Chicago music show

Boys Brigade Growing Draws New Recruits in Town

The Boys Brigade held a meeting last evening and attracted many new recruits. Captain Wittke praised the strong response to the call to join the organization and noted the brigade’s role in giving young men military basics in a favorable setting. Boys join the brigade and do it now.

Westfield mobilizes for food production and burglar scare

In Westfield residents rally to help Wilsons call for increased food production. Police report multiple burglaries on the south side as residents form agricultural squads under Mayor Evans and George S. Hayes. Women organize a 60 strong division to assist, while men volunteer for tractor work and crop gathering.

No Maid Delivery On Decoration Day Declared

On Decoration Day May 30 there will be no delivery of mail from the local post office. The office will be open for box holders and general delivery from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Westfield Girls Knit For Navy Effort Gains Commendation

A Westfield group of girls formed a knitting club to aid the Navy. They meet weekly at a member’s home, read aloud, and have spent about twenty two dollars on materials.
