Westfield School Meeting Publicizes Trustees and Plans

Taxpayers at Washington School gathered to vote for trustees and appropriations and to hear the board president's annual message. Students from multiple grades performed and classrooms displayed domestic science sewing and drawing exhibits while officers and tellers conducted the proceedings.

Belgium The Battlefield of Europe Lecture at Local Free Series

Prof. George N. Cross presents a Saturday evening free lecture on Belgium as the battlefield of Europe. Conservatism Lecture Warns on Forest Loss

Forster warned at the Washington School last Saturday that eastern and western forests are being cut for manufacturing and China’s depopulated due to deforestation could recur here without forest preservation. Westfield Forms New Tennis Club With Six Courses

A new organization known as the Westfield Tennis Club replaces the Terrace Park and S Stanley Oval clubs. A long lease covers land from the Oval grounds to Chestnut street, with six first class courts, fencing, water piping, and a club shelter planned. E. C. Stoddard is president. George Delatour Jr. is vice president. C. H. Warfield is secretary. R. W. Bradbury treasurer. A board of governors and committees for grounds, tournament, and finance are named. A season program includes a Ranking Tournament and an inauguration tournament on Decoration Day.

Jail Warden Dodd Dies On Jersey Central Train

Charleys W. Dodd longtime jail warden at Elisabeth died suddenly on a Jersey Central train near Westfield as passengers aided him after he gasped for breath. He served 22 years, known for strict discipline and fair treatment of inmates. Survived by daughter Mrs. Ernest T. Hand.
