Controversy Surrounds Rosecrans as Chief Ousted Bid

A town council session extended from 8 p.m. to after 3 a.m. resulted in a 2 to 1 vote to remove Police Chief Rosecrans. Council members Whitcomb Archbold Taylor Simpson and Mayor Oliver voted against him while Affreck Egan Van Aan voting in his favor. The charges cited gambling, neglect of duty, incompetence, and unlicensed exhibition at a carnival near the railroad tower. Prosecutor Hetfield testified about arrests and plans to arrest others as the grand jury investigation continued.

New Jersey Dental Association Meets Here Today

The New Jersey Dental Association holds a meeting at the West-Greater Chapter today. Following the program a social hour will be enjoyed with refreshments served at 7 and the election of officers will take place.

American Legion Formed in Westfield Post

Westfield forms the Martin Warburg Post of the American Legion with over 100 members, many former servicemen, and plans a public appearance by July 4. The post, third in the state, will operate on a one dollar annual dues with outside donations to cover expenses and is supported by local officials and the Elizabeth Welcome Home Committee. Officers include Commander Walter A. Dempsey and Adjutant Edward W. Witthire.

Big Sunday School Parade Saturday

Eleven Westfield district Sunday schools led by Grand Marshal Dempsey plan an 8 p.m. parade Saturday. Sidewalk Contract Awarded By Council

The Town Council agenda included A. H. Storr winning the bid to lay cement sidewalks in several town sections. The final readings passed on ordinances to vacate part of South avenue and improve buclid avenue between Broadstreet and Mountain avenue. Treasurer Gilmore reported funds and tax proceeds and the council heard miscellaneous reports.

Westfield Militia Reserve Hosts Veteran Reception

The Westfield Company of State Militia Reserve will hold a June 12 reception at Flage's Hall for all Westfield veterans and local men 18 and over. A musical program by the West Side Y M C A Quartet plus food and drinks are planned. Captain Wright praises citizen support and hopes to keep the company intact while inviting young men to join.
