Big Fourth plans stir Westfield community spirit

The Board of Trade proposal for a large Fourth of July celebration in Westfield gains momentum with promised funding from locals. A program may include a national guest, school singing, a band at Washington school park, and bleacher seating at Recreation Park. Westfield Voters Approve 13 000 for High School Finishing

In Westfield a 271 to 111 vote approved completing the new High School by granting the Board of Education 13 000. The bonds will be 4 percent serial coupon bonds payable at the Westfield Trust Company.

Strike Settled Yesterday On Washington School Project

Twenty odd contractors with contracts for the Washington school work met yesterday afternoon and settled the strike that threatened to halt progress. A rep of the architect's office chaired. Walking Delegate Cosgrove aired grievances. After an hour of talk Mr Faas the steamfitting contractor agreed to cooperate and finish as Merrick Fireproofing Co. advised, with Cosgrove ordering all contractors back to work.

Children's Country Home Carnival Set for June 6

The annual Carnival at the Children's Country Home will be held Saturday June 6. A jitney will run from Broad and Elm every half hour 9 to 10. Afternoon features include Punch and Judy, a grab bag, a Japanese tea garden, and dance performances. The Westfield Band conducted by Harold F Welch will perform along with vaudeville and moving pictures. An evening buffet supper, dancing pavilion, ice cream and cake, and party floats will entertain all ages. Rumors say the mounted police squad is well known to Westfield residents.

Westfield drivers injured in trolley collision on 324th Street

Four Westfield Storage Company workers suffered bruises when a new auto moving van was struck by a trolley at 324th Street and White Plains Avenue in New York City. Driver Donald Maxwell and three helpers were hospitalized before being sent home. the van was damaged and sent to the Pierce Arrow factory for repairs.
