Town Council budget outline and water plans for 1921

St Pauls Men’s Club Annual Banquet Promised with Rev Horace Silver

Rev Horace P Silver of the Church of the Incarnation has agreed to address the St Pauls Parish Men’s Club annual banquet at the Parish House on January 20 1921. Tickets are limited as the club nears 300 members with dinner by Bruns of Plainfield and guild supervision. The committee led by Fred G Smith urges prompt ticket purchase.

College Woman's Club Holds January Meeting in Westfield

The Col lege Woman's Club of Westfield met at Miss Irene Cooper's home 128 E Dudley Ave. The group endorsed Mrs A L Price for the New Jersey State Board of Education and supported an appropriation for the Mary Fisher Home for Girls in Trenton. Mrs Roger Magon played 17th Century piano selections and Dr Mabel S Douglas spoke on the New Jersey College for Women detailing its 1918 founding and growth.

School Budget Seeks 160000 for Next Year

The Board of Education at a High School meeting reviewed a 160900 budget for the coming year to cover current expenses 128400 manual training 6000 buildings and repairs 6000 and 20500 to finish this year. Voters will decide on February 8 about funding and a Westfield avenue school project bond. The board accepted Miss Olive K Smith's resignation due to ill health.

Edwards to Appoint Tuttle as Banking and Insurance Chief

Governor Edwards will name former Congressman William E. Tuttle Jr. to become Commissioner of Banking and Insurance, succeeding Frank E. Smith of Plainfield. Tuttle will begin January 22 for a three year term. Smith is a Republican. Tuttle is a Democrat who previously served several terms in Congress.

Tuttle Named Banking Commissioner Candidate

Mr. Tuttle, former receiver for C and C Electric in Garwood, steered the firm to a creditor-friendly close and led New Jersey’s pavilion at Panama Exposition. He now pursues banking and loan affairs in Union County and serves as vice president of Peoples Bank & Trust Company, positioning him for the Banking Commissioner post.
