Westfield Town Council votes to grant liquor licenses

Large turnout at Town Hall for a liquor license vote. The Town Council unanimously approved licenses for inn keepers J. H. Willett, John W. Kelly, and John Burke amid petitions from 461 voters to refuse licenses. A later lecture by Capt. Herbert Wheaton Congdon on citizen soldiers drew a strong audience.

Dr William Gale Celebrates 84th Birthday Milestone

Dr William Gale marks his 84th birthday with visits from friends and relatives after a Sunday dinner party at his Westfield home. Born in Westfield, he served as a navy surgeon during the Civil War and later ran a Central Avenue business now continued by his son William Gale. He is active in local groups including the Westfield Board of Trade and Fire Department, with a daughter Mrs Chase Conte of Chicago. The Grant School Parent Teacher gathering is set for Friday night with a promised good time.

Westfield Scores for Preparedness

An experiment on Washingtons Birthday tested wireless warning stations across the United States. A message from Rock Island Arsenal was picked up in Westfield and delivered to Mayor Winsor Rosecrans, urging armed and disciplined citizens, with Governors and Mayors receiving the message to show Westfields readiness.

First M. E. Sunday School To Elect Officers

Masons to Hold Card Party and Dance Friday Night

At Atlas Lodge rooms the Masonic Club plans a first social event a card party and dance. Evitations go out for Friday March 10 with auction bridge and euchre to be played and dancing from 1 to 1 30. All Masons in town urged to attend.

Police Chiefs to Visit Westfield for Formal Meeting

The State association of Police Chiefs led by Chief Kiely of Plainfield will visit Westfield on Thursday March 2. Chief Rosecrans hosts the event with the Police Committee. the High School hosts the regular meeting where Prof. J J Savitz will speak informally. A buffet lunch follows at Kelly's Hotel.

K B Society to Produce Facing the Music

In the K B Society meeting nights the three act comedy Facing the Music is announced to be staged at St Maal Parish House on the evening of March. A full cast is named and car sales are in progress. Grand Regent Sterman to attend the next Royal Arcanum meeting with several candidates to be initiated. A new Fourth Degree team led by Ernest Carr debuts at this meeting. Refreshments and attendance contests are planned as the members push for victory. Local auto sale notes and Westfield Garage promotion appear alongside.
