Masonic Club Gala in Westfield Ends Social Season

The Masonic Club hosted a successful g and party at Westfield auditorium with 68 at bridge 127 at Five Hundred 44 to play. Prizes included cut glass, cigars, and a necktie while Mrs J G Peirce and others won top awards. The Bronner Orchestra provided dancing into the night.

Hudson Tube Plan Reveals Vehicular Tunnel From Jersey City to Manhattan

Full public details outline twin cast iron tubes 29 feet in diameter with 20 foot roadway and 13% foot clearance. The tube would run 12th Street Jersey City to Canal Street New York, 60 feet below low water, with plazas at entrances and exit. Estimated traffic 13.27 to 15.8 million annually, financing through tolls to yield a net surplus of 33.7 million after 20 years. Construction projected to begin September with operation in 1924.

Governor proposes state insurance fund to aid injured workers

Governor Edward I Edwards outlines a plan for a state insurance fund to cover workmen injured or killed on the job. He argues the state should share in awards to prevent excessive employer premiums and notes New York's existing fund as a model for study by the Legislature.

Fire damages chicken coop on East Broad Street

Firefighters were called to the Hooper property on East Broad Street near Fairview Cemetery to fight a blaze in a chicken coop owned by John Davidson. The snow hindered access but the team saved a nearby barn and other outbuildings while the chicken house and 25 fowls burned. Davidson estimates losses at 200 dollars.

Presbyterian Men's Club Meeting Adds Entertainment and Talk

The Presbyterian Men's Club regualr meeting will be held Tuesday evening February 24 in the Parish House. The University Quartette will entertain and a talk on Foreign Exchange will be given. Refreshments will be served.

Troop D to Be Organized Tonight at Town Hall

A town meeting last night moved toward forming a Troop D type organization with an organizing committee of Harris Hastings and Prowdfont to draft a plan and elect acting sergeants. A second committee of Jones Miller and Saitta sought a drill location for winter.

Benefit Dance At Stoneleigh Park Draws Plenty

A tea dance at Mrs. John J. Gafnell’s Stoneleigh Park raised 75 dollars for the Smith College Fund and plans were made to repeat the event in March. Music came from a pianola and Gerald Foster with drums. A separate bridge party at Mrs. C N Codding’s Boulevard home followed yesterday afternoon for the same fund.
