Chief John C. Rosecrans urges town cooperation to keep Westfield safe. He mails circulars praising 911 style vigilance and instructs residents to report suspicious activity to Police Headquarters at 496 and to notify when leaving homes unmanned.
The Equal Franchise League of Westfield plans a meeting at president Mrs F J Sturgis 503 Boulevard on Monday February 21 at 8 00 p m The topic is the sin tax with speaker Miss Amy Mall Hicks of New York a noted artist and leader in the Art and Craft movement and a longtime advocate of the single tax She will discuss the principles and practical applications of the single tax and share views on its world wide implementation Mrs James O Clark will present a resume of Miss Richards latest lectures for Carent Events.
The Congregational Church plans its annual supper next Friday with Springstead and Orr speaking. Harry Y Sadert will be toastmaster as Springstead discusses the church's values at the event for church officers and attendees.
Mr Dennis faces scrutiny as officials urge strong calibre to fill the post and hope he will reconsider his decision to stand again. James E Grape, on the board seven years, cites prior service and committee work but cites time constraints. Dempsey, six years on the board and two terms as president, is eligible for reelection, credited with introducing free public lectures and curricular improvements.
At a Park Board meeting Town Attorney Oliver stated officials acted illegally in granting Sunday skating on Park Lake.
