Westfield School Board Election Set For February 14

Westfield voters will elect three members to the Board of Education for three year terms at the high school meeting on Tuesday February 14 at 8 p.m. Citizens Tate and Mrs A W Orm join J Smith as suggested candidates. Other voting items include the 1922 1923 school budget transfer of Prospect Street School to the town and authorization of $18459.76 in notes for portable school houses.

Relief Federation thanks donors for 1921 aid efforts

Report from the Federation Relief Association thanks churches clubs and volunteers for funding and distributing temporary relief to Westfield’s destitute in 1921. It notes a woman with three children found in distress and aided by federated officers and police with immediate support and shelter.

Firesidi’s Smile Week Melting Fun At Meeting

Following council policy the Happiness at Every Meeting campaign invites large attendance at Thursday February 9. The Abe Lincolns and the George Washingtons contest promises fun prizes valentines surprise packages and a Dark Secret reveal to the first observer. Refreshments will be unusual and served to all attendees.

Fremad Branch of Sons of Norway Inaugurated in Westfield

A new Fremad branch of the Sons of Norway was inaugurated at Arcanum Hall in Westfield last Saturday evening February 5. The lodge, open to men and women, has about 20 members and invites more Norwegian descendants to join by writing K Norloff at PO Box 371 Westfield.

Clarence the senior class comedy at Westfield High

Westfield High School staged Clarence a four act comedy presented by ten seniors directed by Misa Louisa M. Aiber in the school auditorium over Friday and Saturday. The plot centers on a busy New York business man Mr Wheeler his family and a young veteran named Clarence who is hired during a visit by the Wheeler household. Amid intrigues with the governess, a wary stepmother and the Wheeler offspring the veteran becomes a welcome guest and confidant. The High School orchestra provided music under Miss Jagger with stage management and props by a student team. Cast included Edna Perkins Richard Lucas Elizabeth Pierson Coleridge Hutson Phyllis Watts Frances Smitley and others.

Board of Education decision on Woman's Club Auxiliary remains

Regular Board of Education meeting declines withdrawal of the Woman's Club School Auxiliary noting its past help. Lincoln School construction progresses with 10 days left and new equipment arriving. temporary sidewalks installed. Permission granted for Young Men's Bible Class of First Baptist Church to use the school gym for events on February 25 and March 26.

Bonds for Pat Commission to fund Union County park

Union County Freeholders moved to issue four bonds totaling 49 thousand dollars to support the newly formed Park Commission. County Treasurer Nathan Leavitt was directed to solicit proposals by 11 a.m. February 15 at the courthouse. Bonds carry 4.5 percent interest, sold at 1000 dollars each, maturing in 1972.
