Town Council Minutes Show Tax and Safety Measures

Christmas in the Westfield Churches Recall Festive Services

Westfield churches stage a full Christmas program with decorated churches choirs and elaborate services. At St Pauls Episcopal Church worship includes Holy Communion Morning Prayer and processional hymns with a rich solo and choral music program. The Congregational Church hosts a Sunday School program and community events with slides and Bible readings. A Cradle Roll social is planned for December 24 alongside multiple Christmas Masses and special music across churches.

Christmas Exercises At Sunday School Auditorium

The Sunday School of the First M E Church plans two Christmas events tomorrow. In the afternoon primary pupils and beginners perform in the main auditorium with Supt Johnston assisted by Ralph Vervoort and Musical Director Lewis. A 30 foot tree and Santa Claus entertain, then gift boxes are given. In the 7:30 p m program for older children parents gather as the big tree is lit with electric lights, featuring an organ prelude and the Joy to the World hymn performance.

Westfield High School Dedication Days Planned

The Board of Education in Westfield outlines the dedication program for January 13 and 14. State Commissioner Kendall will speak on the first night with Glee Club and Westfield Band selections. Dr. F E Bryan of Colgate on Alumni Night. other speakers include Dr J J Bavits, County Superintendent Johnston, and Assistant State Commissioner Meredith.

Inspect School Buildings Under State Review

State authorities ordered a special inspection of all school buildings. A committee of the School Board president, supervising principal, building committee chairman, and an architect appointed by the board will conduct the survey and report findings to state authorities promptly.

Week of Prayer schedule across churches starts January 4

The week of prayer runs January 4 to 7 with services at 8 p m each evening. Congregational Church leads January 4 on Family Religion with Dr W S Steans. January 6 at Presbyterian Church focuses on The Church at Home and Abroad led by Rev Charles T Snow. Baptist Church hosts Christianity and Social Problems led by Dr Wesley Martin. January 7 at Methodist Church features Decipieship led by Dr S L Loomis. A New Year's Prayer Meeting is set for January 1 at 9 am in the Congregational Parish House. All are invited.
