A local Methodist church led drive to boost Red Cross membership this week. Captains encourage families to join, display a Red Cross flag in their windows, and place donation messages at homefront windows as Christmas spirit grows.

Collectors office in the county announces that federal income tax officers will be in town from January 2 to January 26, 1918, at local post offices to assist taxpayers at no cost from 9 am to 430 pm. Returns for 1917 are due by March 17, 1918. Taxpayers must file even if unsure of liability. penalties range from 20 to 4000 dollars for failure to file. Residents may visit Elizabeth Plainfield Westfield and Rahway offices or come to the visiting experts.
