Congregational Pastor Resigns After Seven Years in Westfield

Rev Dr Samuel Lane Loomis pastor of the Congregational church in Westfield New Jersey submits his resignation effective six months from November 26 1915. He cites a desire for change and notes a sixth month notice and mutual council for approval. Mrs Loomis active in local work plans and no future position announced.

Park Lake improvement plan seeks 30000 bond issue

At a joint Finance Committee and Park Commissioners meeting in Town Hall, consensus supported improving Park Lake. A $30,000 bond issue was proposed to fund the project based on architect J Wallace Higgins Ro wette designs. The plan will add a Broad Street entrance and aims to yield substantial long term value.

Snow Queen and Box of Dolls to Be Shown at Playhouse

Westfield plans a double children’s program on December 13 with The Snow Queen operetta featuring fifty young singers and A Box of Dolls performed by twelve children. Miss Mabel Bray directs the operetta and Miss Marion Denman choreographs dances in a polished production for Woman's Club guests. tickets are reserved and sold at a nominal price.

Musical Service at the Presbyterian Church

Next Sunday afternoon at 4 30 the choir will render the musical service following the Communion. Several new voices have joined the choir and the performance is expected to be excellent Maunder's Song of Thanksgiving will be the principal feature.

At a meeting of the governing board of the local branch of the URC A held at President Bennett's Blm street home, Mrs A B Keller was named special agent and E A Merrill appointed as attorney. Thirteen members attended the gathering. The minutes will be circulated to members during the coming week.

Religious Services in Westfield Theatre Attract Large Crowd

The Peoples Services in the Westfield Theatre drew the season’s largest attendance as Miss Helen Oswald sang Abide With Me and Dr. Samuel Jane Loomis of the Congregational church spoke on Home. A Thanksgiving themed moving picture accompanied the talk, and next Sunday will feature Tolstoy’s God’s Love with Loomis to speak again.

Westfield Police to be inspected by city leaders

Next Sunday afternoon the entire Westfield police department will be inspected by Mayor Evans, the Police Commissioners and Chief Rosecrans. The force will wear new winter uniforms for the first time and headquarters, recently updated, will also be examined.

Tonic sale lands grocer in court over illegal Bisler's Bitters

Carlo Clement, a Spring street Italian grocer, faced Recorder Springstead after police seized a bottle of Bisler's Bitters labeled illegally and containing 33 percent wood alcohol. State analysis confirmed the adulterated contents. Clement claimed he bought the medicine from a traveling salesman whose name and address he did not know. Fine paid. authorities sought the selling agent.
