Drowned at Silver Lake Claim of 19 Year Old
Ish Walsh age 19 of Westfield died after a boating accident at Silver Lake. John Walsh, with ward, attempted rescue as Howard and Patrolman assisted but the body was recovered after over an hour. He was a Westfield High School and Columbia College graduate and member of Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Funeral held at Holy Trinity and St Mary’s.

Altruck Proves Successful in Park Ladder Test
The aerial ladder test Saturday afternoon drew many spectators as Chief Decker led a controlled demonstration at a lake shore park. The apparatus reached the bank and impressed officials including Driv and Woodruff, with hopes it will be ready for Council approval on August 28th.

Record crowd fills park for band concert
A large crowd attended Friday night’s band concert with an estimated 5 000 to 6 000 people. Cars lined Broad street and Mountain avenue, with attendees from Plainfield Elizabeth Roselle New Brunswick Newark and nearby towns. Mr Murray’s singing was well received amid a program featuring Star Spangled Banner a march and several solos and overtures. Three more concerts remain this season with strong local turnout expected.
