Playground Closes August 25 After Summer Fun

The playground will close on August 25 for the season after a busy period of tests, tournaments, and a youth tennis event won by Bert Snyder in a 47-participant field. Despite supervision, eight youngsters have enjoyed the grounds with ongoing activities noted. a short hike and kiddie ride will mark the closing, with ice cake served to attendees.

Seub Holds Weekly Luncheon At Local Rotary

The Seub Rotary Club met at Hackamaxon Country Club with 33 members present. An effort was made to recruit more members to join Friday night exercises of the newly formed Rotary Club, with guests Organist Walker and residents John Fe and A Ih attending.

Masonic Service Set In Rahway On September 7

A Masonic Service gathering will be held in Rahway on Thursday evening at 7 o clock. Atlas Lodge of Ald, Anchor Lodge and Jern Lodge of Pleinfield will host with Right Worshipful Joseph R Sizac as Chaplain presenting Masonry at the Crossroads. A reception will follow and invitations extend to membership.

Busy Town Council session approves street and transit work

The Town Council held a busy meeting approving final reading for a Park Street Summit Avenue roadway change and trolley relaying with a cement culvert to remove a dangerous curve. They refused a Rafforele Russo business request and moved ahead on taxes, bonds, and town land acquisitions.

Masonic Club Gives Outing to Children at Country Home

Members of the Masonic Club of Westfield spent Saturday afternoon taking ten cars full of children from the Chil dren's Country Home on a countryside ride for about two hours. They were entertained by Mr. Miller of New York City with sleight of hand and a Punch and Judy show, and each child received a toy. Afterward the children dined on chicken, ice cream and cake served by the club members.

Heralds Picnic Tomorrow to Holly Beach

The King Heralds of the First Methodist Church plan their annual outing tomorrow. They meet at 9 45 at the church and depart at 4 o clock by auto bus for Holly Beach, Plainfield. Each will bring lunch and parents are invited. Mrs B F Martin of South Avenue is in charge.

Former Westfield Resident Drowned in Canal

Thomas Jones a 30-year-old former Westfield resident drowned Friday night when the canoe he paddled at Smiths Mills ear Buller Tip fell overboard. He was a chef at Camp Apskawa and survived by his wife Maria Jones, two sisters and two brothers.

Hoard of Health Report for Month of July

Inspector Carney reports four scarlet fever cases two diphtheria cases nine chickenpox cases four whooping cough cases and three tuberculosis cases for July. In August these cases have been suppressed and there is but one diphtheria case remaining.

Last Sunday School Excursion to Asbury Park Planned

The final summer Sunday School excursion will travel to Asbury Park and Ocean Grove next Tuesday August 22. It is expected to be the largest trip of the season. The train departs at 8 36. Tickets may be obtained from any committee member.

Auto Hits Woman While Crossing South Avenue

Mrs Esbrandt of Elizabeth was struck by an eastbound auto on South avenue Monday morning. She was not badly injured and was taken to her home. The car was driven by Mrs Jessie Obrien of Crescent street Plainfield.

An official road test and demonstration of Westfield's new 65 foot motor driven Aerial Fire Truck is scheduled for Saturday August 19 at 3 PM. Citizens invited to Minda Was kin Park to view ladder raising and pipe operation at multiple points including Presbyterian Church Casey Building and Wondrutt's Storage Building.
