Westfield residents urged to attend a big meeting at the High School auditorium on Wednesday August 22 1917 to form the Westfield Battalion a military training organization for registered and drafted men and interested older men. The plan includes drills once a week and aims to prepare men for non commission officer roles and support the national army through training.

Old resident Violet Anderson Miller dies at home
Mrs Violet Anderson Miller of Mountainside Brookyn born, daughter of the late Walter Anderson, died Friday evening after a short illness. She had lived in the area 32 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian church. Survived by husband William Miller daughter Miss Violet Miller and a Brooklyn sister. Funeral held at home Monday with Rev J A Smith officiating and Greenwood interment.

Auto accident injures local couple near Keyport

Troop Trains Pass Through Westfield

See Boy Drowns at Echo Lake in Newark
Theodore Strahle of South Fourteenth Street Newark drowned at Echo Lake on Sunday morning after cramps struck him during a swim with four companions. Lawrence Anthen of German Town recovered the body. Coroner Westcott and officers gave aid. Strahle, eighteenth, was sole supporter of a widowed mother with a bright future ahead. Remains taken Sunday afternoon to Newark.
