Westfield council debates street and trolley undercrossing
At a Monday town council meeting Mayor Evans said Central Railroad would fill Westfield avenue under the tracks and Public Service Railway must lay tracks through the undercrossing or passengers would walk. The trolley firm says it cannot finance the new track. council instructs attorney to notify the railway to be ready in two weeks. Repairs on Bummit avenue and Elm street to be funded by the trolley company, which cites labor shortages. Salary raises for firemen and a war memorial commission are approved, with other ordinances and refunds and notices noted. The district nurse automobile fund closes with substantial donations and a letter from Mayor Evans confirms receipt of funds and thanks contributors.
