Grant School Progress and Town Council Actions

The council discussed traffic ordinances with penalties and reviews of road and sidewalk improvements. Grants for the Grant school renovation were reported near completion, with praised grading and upcoming bids for work. The board planned staff appointments and debated noiseless auditorium fans amid budget considerations.

Delightful Bridge Party Aids District Nurse Fund

Mrs. T. D. Bunce and Mrs. C. P. Worth hosted a large bridge party at Walnut Street benefiting the District Nurse Association. Twelve tables played, prizes went to Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Burritt, Mrs. Middleditch, Mrs. Morgan, and Misa Nimmons for plain bridge. The event netted 312.30 and thanks were given to Mr. E. N. Brown for chairs. Next event will be at Minsex Newcomb on Dudley Avenue August 19.

Five Dollars or Ten Days Domestic Disorder

John Peterson was arrested by Chief O'Neill on Monday evening after his wife accused him of striking her with a chair and damaging furniture. Before Record er Collins on Tuesday morning it emerged he had been drinking and the judge ordered a $5 fine or ten days in the County jail.

Fall From Porch Hurts Mrs Taylor At Harrison Avenue

Mrs Taylor mother of Mrs C QO Mites of Harrison avenue fell from the rear porch of her home Sunday. She suffered bruises and cuts but avoided serious injury and is recovering from a nervous attack linked to the fall.

Westfield Girl Narrowly Escapes Falling Overboard

Miss Helen Pearsall of Ferris Place slipped while raising the anchor on a Morgans fishing trip with her brother and sister. She fell head first into twenty foot water, grabbed the boat edge, and was rescued by her brother Ferris Pearsall. She was drenched but unharmed. Ferris Pearsall is on a two week vacation from the local post office.

May Repave Broad Street With New Pavement

The Public Service Railway Company informs town officials they will relocate construction work for tracks on Broad Street. Cobblestones between track and brick pavements will be removed and replaced, improving the street’s appearance.

Speeding Auto Case Heard Before Recorder Collins

The case of G. W. Thompson versus R. H. Hood from Plainfield was heard by Recorder Collins on Monday morning. Hood was fined $10 for speeding an auto numbered 17483NJ on South Avenue on July 1. the fine was paid.
