Newbern era papers push prohibition as a central issue for the coming summer campaign. The measure failed last August after sweeping opposition, with both Republicans and Democrats opposing and supporting it in shifts, as voters crushed the effort and buried it.
The Hidden mine in Alexander County was sold for 30000 to The Emerald and Hiddenite Mining Company, chartered in New York with 200000 capital. Officers include J D Yerring ton president and R A Roberts secretary, W E Hidden superintendent. 1600 of 2000 shares sold at 25 each, remaining offered in lots.
