Moonshiner Louis Redmond Faded into Local Legend
Asnevinnn, N. C. Feb. 13. The country has heard how Louis Redmond, a famed moonshiner in Western North Carolina, evaded revenue officers for decades. Captured in 1881 after a firefight, he was sentenced to four years in Albany and later pardoned through Senator Wade Hampton's influence. Now retired in Transylvania County, his name remains a legendary symbol of defiance against Prohibition-era enforcement.
