Randolph Abbott Shotwell born December 13 1844 in West Liberty Virginia served early as a Confederate sharpshooter in Pickett’s division and Gettysburg. After the war he edited newspapers in North Carolina and endured prison hardship before winning a pardon and later serving in the North Carolina legislature.
