Cap Johnson Civil War veteran dies in Wakeeney
A. J. Johnson known as Cap Johnson dies at his daughter’s home in Wakeeney aged 88 years 7 months and 15 days after a long life in Trego County. He served in Co F Sixth Minnesota and later worked as a hardware clerk and member of the G A R. Funeral held at the Methodist Church with military honors, buried in Wakkeeney Cemetery. Surviving children are Wilford J Johnson Ida Stranahan and Dr Archie N Johnson. Card of thanks from family.

WaKeeney Chooses Plan for Modern Electric Light Plant
Report on city council actions clarifies bids for the WaKeeney power and light outfit and building. F M Benson Machinery Co of Kansas City submitted the only acceptable bid for the power outfit at 50150 excluding building and smokestack. Building bids were rejected as too high, four lots were purchased across from George Bauer’s home for the plant site. The proposed plant includes 200 hp and 100 hp boilers with space for a future boiler, and the site is planned on the outskirts of town to provide long term benefits.

Wheat Stacks and Barn Burned in Graham County
Two fires of mysterious origin struck near WaKeeney this week. A barn on Mr Neinmeyer’s farm north of WaKeeney burned Sunday evening, followed by five wheat stacks, about sixty acres, owned by Charley Stites, set ablaze later that night. The fires caused concern over arson, with efforts to locate suspects and enforce the law. Also noted are campus updates: enrollment, freshmen activity, football prep, lecture course enrollment, and local notices, including sale of personal property of George Stokesberry.
