Man Killed in Wheat Drill Accident Near Russell

Mike Hildebrand died this afternoon around four while drilling wheat on his farm southeast of Russell when a team ran away and the drill ran over him, crushing his head. A brother of Chris Hildebrand of Callier township is noted in the report.

Tragic WaKeeney Sand Pit Accident Claims Will Enix

Will Enix, 20, a sand hauler from WaKeeney, was crushed when a bank at a sand pit collapsed. He died instantly from neck and back injuries. The accident occurred near WaKeeney on Wednesday morning while Enix worked with Rae Jones. Funeral services will be held at the Baptist church with burial in WaKeeney Cemetery. He is survived by his widowed mother and three sisters.

Dr Miller's Side Wins Golf Tryouts Series

Dr Miller leads WaKeeney Club to victory in a four tournament golf tryout series on a nine hole course. The team with the lowest aggregate over thirty six holes earns a district berth on October 15 at Ellis. In the second match, Miller fielded a different lineup yet again won 347 to 361, followed by a victory banquet at The American House with players listed.

Death of Mrs. Robert L. Bailey in Kansas City

Mrs. Helen Schmitt Bailey known as Nellie, 72, died at St. Marys hospital Kansas City from acute neuritis after a serious operation. Born in Quincy Illinois, she came to this county in 1879 with her family. She married Robert L. Bailey in 1902 and lived in Ottawa Kansas recently. Burial in WaKeeney Cemetery beside her parents. Survived by husband, sister Mrs. W. W. Gibson and brother L. J. Schmitt with distant relatives from Hutchinson Jewell and Ottawa attending the funeral.

Horse accident at Fair at Hays injures Burt Frazier

While running a race at the Fair at Hays Burt Frazier was thrown from a horse injuring his stomach and bowels. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition but is improving. The Tourist Club held its fall kickoff meeting at Mrs. W G Rhoades home with a discussion on nutritious foods and balanced rations.
