Trego County Pupils Dominate Prize Map Contest

In the district judge Ruppenthal offers prizes to pupils who draw best township maps. Trego county entries, mainly from Collyer, present seven maps and rank highly. First Frances Polkovsky, Collyer, age 16, map township 14 range 2. second Maggie t Collyer, age 14, map township 12 range 25. third Merle Hitt Collyer, age 12, map township 11 range.

Prizes for Map Drawing in six Kansas counties

Russell Kansas October 15 1909 announcement offers 30 prizes in six counties for township historical maps created by school pupils. Five prizes per county at varying amounts with consolation awards, judged by a committee from the Kansas State Normal School, Western Branch at Hays. Maps must be historically thorough accurate and neatly drawn on standard 14 inch square sheets. entries due by May 1 1910 and become property of the Kansas State Historical Society. multiple entries allowed but no more than one prize per township. insufficient county participation disqualifies prizes.
