Grandma Kelly Passes After Long Pioneer Life in City

The community mourns Mrs. James Kelly known as Grandma Kelly a longtime pioneer resident. She died May 20 1917 in Des Moines Iowa at age 79 years 4 months 29 days after a cerebral hemorrhage following a January visit with her son Samuel. Buried beside her husband in Wa Keeney cemetery after funeral at the Presbyterian church with Rev Brown officiating. She leaves two sons Samuel F. and William B. and daughter Marjorie Mortimer J. McCoy and many relatives and friends expressing sincere sympathy.

Glad Hand Welcomes Colorado Delegates in Wa-Keeney

Narrow escape on Hill City road near WaKeeney

An auto driven by Chas Klenk and WC Schuck from Abilene collided with a wagon carrying Mr and Mrs Hoover and two children near WaKeeney. Rain and darkness hampered visibility as the auto lights failed and a flashlight provided the only guidance. The kindly hand of fortune prevented a more serious accident.

Collision Injures Men in Auto Wagon Crash near Town

A rear end collision between an auto and a wagon near town injured two men aboard the car. Mr Schuck suffered cuts to the face and hands, with a jaw wound, while Mr Klenk had minor hand scrapes. Aid arrived from Pickering’s garage and Schuck later traveled home by train No 102, weakened by shock. Decoration Day services are scheduled at Razak Hall May 27 and 30 with sermons, music, and a bouquet reading, urging bouquets to Razak Hall by 10:30 a.m. Central Time.

Decoration Day Program At Octure House And Cemetery

A community ceremony begins at 10 assem in front of the octure house with a band, then a 10 30 march to the cemetery in a set order including band firing squad KNG Bay scouts GA B in autos and citizens in autos. Ritual services at the cemetery honor soldiers with Taps and a grave decoration. Return to city for 2 pm events in Court House Park and Court Room with music, address by J T Botkin, and a star spangled banner led by the band.

Ladies' Good Will invites men to cemetery cleanup May 25

On account of late spring the Ladies' Good Will society asks all interested men to bring hoes and rakes to the cemetery Friday morning May 25 for a half day or more of ground cleaning in preparation for Decoration Day. The society will still care for Jesus at $1.00 per year and will not serve a Decoration dinner this year. The piece notes farmers may shift from wheat to corn or other feed crops to stay busy during the season.

Alumni Banquet At High School Honors 1917 Grads

The annual alumni banquet was held in the High School gymnasium last Wednesday with about 100 attendees. Purple and gold decor matched school colors and a three course meal was prepared by the Good Will society. Officers elected include Agnes Poffenberger president and Bert Greenwood historian. The graduating class of 187 who are now alumni list multiple named graduates.
