Miss Marie Jensen of Vesper filed naturalization papers in Lincoln county district court with deputy clerk J. W. Meek marking the first such petition during Meek's tenure and possibly the first in county history. Jensen has lived in Lincoln county about 15 years on a farm near Vesper with her brother. At a Kannapolis salt mine a birthday celebration for a Mexican worker triggered a brawl. Sheriff Bradshaw and deputy Ed Moore confronted two fighters. After warnings failed, Bradshaw fired, killing Juan Gonzales. Diaz was restrained and jailed. Gonzales’s body was taken to Ellsworth after coroner's view.
