Destructive cyclone tears through county soil and townships
Last Monday evening a severe cyclone struck sixteen miles south of Wa-Keeney, leveling barns and homes across the Repshire, Lohman, Reece, and Dietz properties. Stock, crops, and furniture were destroyed, with injuries to Mrs Stanton and daughter and one eyewitness recounting extensive damage along the route toward Tom Kutina and neighboring areas. Local residents evacuated to safety, lamenting multiple deaths reported nearby and urging preparation with cyclone cellars.

George R Carr married Margery Havens at the brides parents home in Collyer Kansas. Officiating was Clarence V Powell. Margery, daughter of L F Haven and new Collyer Lumber manager, worked at Luray post office and studied at Sulan Grove High. George, son of Robert Berr of Rich Hill Missouri, will report to Camp Funston next week after train to Rich Hill. The couple left for their future home aboard train 102 and the note reflects patriotic sacrifice for the country.

Death of James L. Brown former postmaster of Wa Keeney
James Louis Brown died May 3 at his Clarinda Iowa home after a three week illness. He lived in Wa Keeney from 1887, worked eight years in clothing, served 15 years as Deputy Postmaster there, then five years as Post Master for a total of twenty years in service. A Methodist, he was known for unselfish acts. Survived by wife four children Edith Welch Omaha Neb W C Phillips Clarinda Louis H Varna Tl and Mabel A Omaha Nebr.
