Sheriff Gillilan Commissioner Hulse and State Veterinarian C W Hobbs condemned eight horses owned by J J and W L Shefield at the Shefield farm in Lanark township. The animals, sick with glanders, were led to an old cave, shot, burned, and buried under earth to prevent further harm. The three officials appraised the herd and averaged the figures with the owner, who was satisfied with the result. The eight head are valued at a little over half the owner’s estimate, with the county paying half the appraisal.
