A Ford car was stolen from the Wellner family during the night after they left it in the garage and slept. The thieves also took eggs from Hille and gasoline from Cortright and altered the car’s wiring to start without a key. No trace of the thief has been found.
The first 1921 wheat was cut last week with many farmers starting this week. Labor shortages eased as incoming help rose, hiring wages range from four to five dollars, while reports of eight dollars in the WaKeeney south territory proved rare. Farmers refuse to cut at a loss, choosing to skip the poorest crops. Most fields yield under ten bushels per acre and some have been bailed or blown out, likely halving the 1920 crop.
S J Straw runs a WaKeeney furniture sale offering specials and a Ford runabout prize for the top vote recipient. Five contestants include Virginia Oldham Emma Knapp Lydia Mai Marl Munson and Mrs Albert OToole. Hoosier Cabinet demo set for Friday and Saturday draws interest. Train passengers visited Denver to seek healing from Anna Semple McPherson amid long standing infirmities.

Grace Hamm daughter of Mr and Mrs A H Hamm and Herman Jorgesson were married at the WaKeeney Presbyterian manse by Rev Heizer on June 29. The ceremony united two local families with a small gathering. the bride, a former rural teacher, wore white crepe de chine and pink roses. They will live in eastern Kansas. A note reports Gladys Hamm visiting WaKeeney and a rancher remarking on housing shortages. A Masons work day with eight candidates was held, followed by a banquet. Mrs Burl Frazier suffers a broken leg after an accident in a buggy driven by their mare.
