Decoration Day was observed at Collyer with the remnants of the Collyer G A R post paying tribute to departed comrades. The old G A R hall was sold, exercises held in the Baptist church with Rev Harper delivering the address, music from the Morland band, and declamations praised.
Wa-Keeney High School defeated Normal 3 to 0 in a brisk baseball game at Hays with two unearned runs in the sixth inning. Clyde Rice and Bear misplays plus two two-baggers helped Wa-Keeney score while Smee dominated on the mound. Umpire Mike Merrill called Smee the best pitcher he ever stood behind.
Locust Club notes report a May 29 meeting led by Mrs. F C Wolmer on the theme Memories with historical discussion of Memorial Day origins. The next meeting moves from June 12 to June 19 due to a Sunday school convention at Collyer. officers will be elected at the final meeting. A Republican Committee contest offers 150 for an article on why the party should win in November. entries due by July 15 in Washington DC, with August 15 for award. Also a noted patent medicine ad appears.
