Local wafer of reports from Wa Keeney Kansas notes Rev Everett visiting, Dr Jates on Decoration Day in Topeka, and many town readers such as Roy Cockrell from Adair and GL Verbeck in Ellison. Other items cover real estate, births, illnesses, a bear show, upcoming Fourth of July plans and a local baseball game.
From Topeka State Journal Collyer in Trego County plans a strong wheat crop with notable growers such as Jacob Miller & Son Weisbach & Son and Thomas Schimkowitsch. A Union Pacific line expansion and a growing Collyer State Bank accompany rapid town growth with two elevators, multiple stores, churches, and increasing population.
Decoration Day exercises were held in the court room with flags and music, drawing a large crowd. A. S. Peacock spoke on Captain Trego, Professor J. H. Nelsiey gave the day’s address filled with patriotism, and cemetery services drew many visitors to decorate graves. Saturday funeral for Mrs. Munson noted her long life and Christian character. she leaves a daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
The Heavenly Father called home our beloved friend Mary Bundy Hastings. The Tourist club mourns a useful and esteemed member and a tender friend and helper. Resolved, deep sympathy to the family. a copy sent to the husband and parents and provided for publication in local papers. Committee: Mrs L C Mapes, Mrs Hnnay Lone, Mrs J W Puares.
May 4 1906 meeting of Captain Trego Post No 197 G A R unanimously adopted expressions of sincere thanks and gratitude to Judge A S Beacock for his research in procuring a portrait biography and war record of Captain Trego. A copy engrossed signed by all members to be presented to Judge Beacock and published in local papers. Real estate transfers listed for week ending ay 31 with various names and properties.
Correspondence reports farmers busy with field work and mild, drying weather after a breezy spell. It notes T C Feezer losing a valuable horse last week, questions pollution of the Peterson sale, and mentions Jobo Glass and C C Cross trading in Ellis Tuesday. It records Miss Bertha Glass taking Willie to Topeka for a kidney operation, and Mrs Rollo Clack Mrs Horace Fidler and Mr and Mrs John Glass dining with Mr and Mrs Frank Cross last Tuesday in Kansas.
Misses Mary and Rosa Zeman trade in Voda while Schwanbeck brothers aid Richard Owens with feed. Kraut recovering after operation. Mrs George, Jim Kristoff visit J Tlorak. Zeman, Austin families work sod for Mr Pearl. Sunday school at Neltselwoot house at 10. Everyone invited. Kristoffs, Austins visit Collyer. lodge initiation at Socecal. W D Austin’s buggy mishap leaves him without a ride.
John Cutler left for Denver Wednesday to take a brakeman exam. Dr Kidd siapped is pacer to Denver Monday night for trainer handling. Second Lieut Cross transferred to Sandy Hook and promoted to First Lieutenant. Ellis and Normal clubs played a tight game, 8 to 7 in favor of Ellis. Auto used to pursue thieves. sheriff caught them after they fled with livery teams. Weekly Wa-Keeney temps: 76 high 32 low, May rainfall one and one third inches.
