Hermit artist Isaac McGirr of West Pike Run County
Isaac Griffith McGirr, born 1828 in the Washington county cottage of his youth, is described as a hermit artist and musician living alone on a Beallsville area farm. Once first violin in New York ensembles and a celebrated pen and pencil master, he returned home in 1870s to care for aging parents and has since lived in solitude, keeping a notable stash of his drawings and a violin in an ebony box.
