Pond Law Lets Farmers Get Tax Breaks For Dams

A recent legislation in the western half of the state provides tax reductions for landowners who build ponds or dams. Earth dams of at least one acre foot yield a 100 reduction. up to three dams per 10 acres qualify. Ponds four acre feet or more cut 200, brick or stone dams add 190. County engineers survey and certify ponds to county boards.

Death of P. J. Gubbins and Collyer memory

P J Gubbins of Collyer born in Tiperary Ireland crosses the silent river July 13. He married in Chicago 44 years ago and served in the Civil War, at Vicksburg. A community leader, he helped found Collyer, led the G A R post, and was famed for kindness and integrity. His funeral was held at Collyer Catholic Church. widow Nellie Davis and the town mourn his loss.

Class Reunion Picnic and Fishing Trip Near Town

The class of Monday evening held a reunion with a picnic and fishing excursion to Galloway's Grove north of town. Most members attended except Hattie Straw due to Stanley's illness. A hearty cookout, snapshots, songs, and tales around a camp fire followed, ending with plans to meet again next year.

Eye Ear Nose and Throat Specialist Visits Salina

Dr. M. J. Brown of Salina will be at the American House on August 4 and August 1 to treat diseases of the eye ear nose and throat using scientific methods. A fire burned two sections of Frank Meserve’s pasture last week as neighbors aided but wind hindered control. Rain may restore range. abstracted title work offered by W. H. Swiggett at reasonable rates.
