Commissioners' Proceedings Wa Keeney Kansas 1908

The Board of County Commissioners at Trego County Kansas met in regular session with all members present. They approved April 20 minutes and June 1 minutes of equalization, authorized a transfer of 100 for Normal Institute, and included examiner fees for county teachers. Appointments for associate examiners Roy Berkeley and Lin Swish were approved. Various bills and salaries for county officials, teachers, and auditors were examined and warrants issued, with detailed payment items listed and allowances approved.

First Government Irrigation Institute Near Colby Kansas

The first government irrigation experiment in Kansas will be near Colby in Thomas County. A drilled well will supply water for a large irrigation project on the southwest quarter of section 4, township 9, range. Congressman Reeder oversees the plan, with a storage basin and nearby wells to follow. The Kansas exposition commission will showcase a sod house at the St. Louis world’s fair to illustrate state products. Local support has been strong, and the project aims to prove artesian wells can irrigate hundreds of acres in western Kansas.
