Kansas City cattle and hog markets faced a setback amid high receipts of 15000 cattle yesterday and 10000 today plus labor worries at packing houses. Stockers and feeders declined 25 to 35 cents from a week ago while beef steers and cows showed mixed prices, hogs weak to 10 lower with top around 10.50, sheep and lambs offering small gains. market correspondent J A Ricwarr notes slow progress but ongoing demand.

Auto Kills Farmer Near Morland

Peter Spies, a Russian farmer living south of Morland, died Monday after his Ford car capsized Saturday evening while he was returning home alone. The vehicle rolled over him, causing fatal head and chest injuries, as reported by the Hill City Republican.

Riot Erupts Over I W W Jailbreak in Wa Keeney

A concealed weapon arrest sparked a near riot as about 150 I W W members seized the sheriff, freed a prisoner, and marched him out of town. Mayor J F Jones organized a posse, drove the men out, and guards were posted as the community feared further violence. Anxious officials reported threats, but vigilence and home guards kept the town quiet.

Fire bomb plot blamed on Kansas farmers stacks

Deputy state fire marshal W G Studebaker traces phosphorus bomb attacks to L W W experts, finding two bombs sent from Heisington to Lawrence for analysis. He says eighteen stacks were treated with either phosphorus wrapped in wet rag or linseed soaked wool, nine burned before discovery, with hundreds possibly affected across western Kansas.
