Rivalry Spurs Railway Build Across Garden City

Garden City grows as railroad activity intensifies with two lines racing to complete services by December 31. Nebraska Kansas Southern has four steel cars, 21 cars total on order, and tracklaying resumes northeast of Pine Street. Death to Rabbits From Monument Hailstorm

A hail storm south and west of Monument on June 24 produced the largest hail in the county. Crops suffered, and many rabbits perished after being driven from shelter into open prairie by the hail. A farmer found five dead rabbits in a 20 by 20 foot area. A young colt and calf were killed as well.

Western Kansas League Proposed by Local Fans

A movement to form a Western Kansas League includes Hays Ellis Wa Keeney Gove City Oakley Colby Hoxie Plainville and Hill City. Teams would play a home circuit plus 15 return games totaling sixteen contests per town. Four towns have signaled interest. organizers urge others to join.
