Cow Peas in Orchard Show Potent Benefits

In a ten year old orchard on clay soil nine acres were sown with cow peas on June 3 1901 while the rest received standard cultivation. By August the pea ground stayed green and thrifty whereas the potato and non pea patches suffered. At harvest the pea area outproduced others with 97 barrels on October 13 and twenty eight barrels picked earlier, while the potato patch yielded little.

Milk Adulteration Declining Says Deiry World

The Deiry World of London reports a drop in milk adulteration based on the Board of Agriculture data for 1890 to 1900. The peak was 14.3 percent in 1893 with 2 210 adulterated samples out of 15 543. By 1900 2 497 of 23 225 samples were adulterated, 10.8 percent. The Somerset fat standard rose from 2.75 to 3.0 percent in the period.
