Givler Leases Wa-Keeney World Asks Restful Retirement

The Wa-Keeney World changes hands as editor H. S. Givler retires January 2 and leases the paper to Shaw and Bingham. Tributes note his three decades of steady leadership. Also, Farmers Union delegates attend in Topeka and Mrs. Steinteel dies of pneumonia after influenza, burial near the Lutheran church.

State of Kansas in new management under Governor Allen

The State of Kansas is under new administration with Governor Allen and officials taking charge last Monday. The new legislature is organized for business and Allen outlines a two year plan and reports wartime acts of the 35th division. He cites Argonne battle losses due to artillery and air support lacking and the future reckoning for those responsible. Two women hold state office for the first time. Kansas ratified the temperance amendment as the twenty ninth state. Trego County Farmers Union met at the court house electing W J Beardwell president and D E Cypher secretary with Beardwell also chosen as county delegate to the state meeting in Topeka.

Reorganization of Trego County Board at Court House

The Trego County commissioners met at the court house for the annual re organization. Newcomer Reed presided as the board re appointed for the coming year. W Herrick was re appointed county health officer at 300 dollars. N W Phares kept the court house janitor post at 600 dollars yearly. Four banks named as county depositories. Township tenants designated as deputy county assessors for 1919. The Trego County Reporter named official paper. The board will meet first Mondays monthly due to heavy road work. A northeast farmers delegation discussed the Arnold bridge issue, pushed to next meeting. Margaret Chapter O E S installed officers.

Margaret Chalk Installed as Worthy Matron in Local Order

Margaret Chalk retired as installing officer for the Worthy Matron role. Incoming officers include Mrs. A. W. Heyl as worthy matron and A. S. Peacock as worthy patron with several associate officers named. Chalk received a past matron badge and a two course luncheon followed. Attendance was limited by bad roads. Screnkler offered potatoes cabbage and onions at Eppler's old stand.
