A pretty home wedding took place at noon on Saturday January 1 1916 as Miss Ethel Cloud youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J T W Cloud wed Mr Carmen Hockman The ring ceremony was performed by Rev W R Woodward in a simple ceremony without bridesmaids The couple will reside on the Cloud farm northwest of town Both families attended and the couple are well regarded in the community A separate item notes funds on hand to pay all outstanding warrants of Trego county Kansas with payment to be made after January 7 1918 by County Treasurer B Acre.

Mrs James Powers a pioneer resident of Trego county died at her Collyer home on Friday December 31 1915 after a long illness from a complication of diseases. Maiden name Sarah Kane she married James Powers October 15 1856 at Waukegan S D where they lived until 1879 then moved to Fort Hays and later near Collyer. Funeral was held Monday from the Catholic church in Collyer World friends extend sympathy to the family.
S. B. Ridgeway of Hutchinson visited Ellis this week. Miss Edith Robertson is at Whee ney caring for a patient. Mrs. Gus Ebeling and children of Sedalia Missouri visit G. W. Cross family. Der. Walter Cross of Kansas City spends a few days with his parents. W. & Newport leave for Hillsboro after weeks with Aunt Mrs. A. A. Cockrell. J. M. Rimker is in New York City this week.
January 4 1916 market summary for cattle hogs and lambs at Kansas City Stock Yards with prices. Best cattle steady to strong with steers up to 88.25 yesterday and 3.00 today. Good cows around 6.00, bulls to 36.00, baby heifers 7.50 to 9.00. Hogs 24 000 head, strong demand and high prices. Lambs weak to 10 lower, sheep steady, receipts 11 000. Also brief notes on theater and high school trustees meeting dates.
