Kansas City stock yards scene details heavy red steers quoted 10 higher with sales from 97.55 to 88.15. Higher steers steady to 16 up. butcher grades steady to 16 higher. Cattle losses cited by some owners, others show gains. Notable lots include steers bought Nov 19 last at 37.25, sold at cost 87.25 after feeding. heifers at 86.25 and 86.50 with 150 lb gain since four months ago. Packers and country buyers active amid light supply. foot and mouth disease in Kansas dampening demand. Texas loads in quarantine arriving around 1200 lbs at 7.10 to 7.15. lighter steers 6.35. Hogs strong early, then steady to 5 lower. bulk 6.50 to 6.45, receipts 15000. Local packers shipping many hogs. quality not strong, order buyers favored. The following week S A Straw celebrated Washingtons Birthday with a fancy dress party featuring colonial costumes and three-course refreshments.
